California Utility Sales Tax Exemption

California does not collect a general sales tax on utilities. Many cities and counties in California have their own Utility User Taxes (UUTs). These are local taxes on the consumption of electricity, gas, and communication services. A partial exemption maybe be available for utilities used in any stage of the manufacturing, processing, refining, fabricating, or recycling of tangible personal property.
