Role Summary
ICS is seeking a Tax Consultant / R&D Specialist to join our growing consulting team. This is a full-time role primarily focused on R&D Tax Credit consulting while also providing exposure to other specialty tax consulting services such as 45X and 48E Tax Credits, Utility Studies, and other services ICS provides. The position involves identifying, documenting, and quantifying qualified research activities and expenditures under IRC Sections 41 and 174, while also assisting with additional credits and incentives as business needs evolve.
You will work with experienced consultants and technical professionals across multiple disciplines to deliver high-quality analyses and client service.
What You Will Do
- Research client activities to determine eligibility for R&D tax credits and other incentive programs
- Collect and analyze project, time, and cost data to support tax credit and incentive calculations
- Conduct and document interviews with engineering, product, operations, and finance personnel
- Prepare clear, organized workpapers and draft technical narratives and client deliverables
- Ensure compliance with IRS and state-specific guidelines for R&D and other credits
- Maintain project timelines, communicate status, and support quality control
- Collaborate with team members to identify additional tax incentive opportunities for clients
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree required; Accounting, Finance, Engineering, or related field preferred
- 2 to 6 years of experience in public accounting, consulting, or tax advisory services
- Working knowledge of basic federal income tax concepts and R&D Tax Credit
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with the ability to interpret large datasets
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including client interviews and technical writing
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; PowerPoint familiarity helpful
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a team environment
- Ability to interpret tax code, regulations, and other legal or technical guidance
- Professionalism, client service mindset, and willingness to learn
Nice To Have
- Experience leading R&D tax credit projects and/or exposure to cost segregation or energy-related incentives (such as 45X, 48E, 179D)
- Prior experience in public accounting, corporate finance, or engineering
- Familiarity with R&D Tax Credit software tools
- Progress toward CPA or other relevant certification

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $60,000 – $95,000 plus commission
