Tyler Bonts is a Director at ICS Tax, LLC, where he leads the firm’s Research & Development Tax Credit practice, Section 45X advanced manufacturing production credits, and utility sales tax exemption studies. He developed and launched both the 45X and Utility Study service lines at ICS, expanding the firm’s capabilities in emerging and underutilized tax incentives.

Tyler provides end-to-end support, including eligibility assessments, technical interviews, documentation, calculation, and audit defense. He has managed successful studies for clients in manufacturing, software, engineering, and product development, with credit values ranging from $10,000 to over $1,000,000. He also builds internal systems, procedures, and training programs to enhance service quality and consistency.

With a background in engineering and applied research, Tyler brings a technical and analytical approach to tax credit services. Prior to joining ICS, he conducted research in injury biomechanics and composite materials, including work with cadaveric impact testing, carbon fiber recycling, and data modeling. He also worked as a field engineer for a large infrastructure firm, where he gained firsthand experience with industrial systems and project execution. His combined experience in laboratory research, technical design, and data analysis provides a strong foundation for evaluating and documenting qualified research activities across a wide range of industries.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Polymer Engineering from Auburn University (2016). Tyler lives in Knoxville, Tennessee with his wife and four children. Outside of work, he enjoys cooking, building computers, gaming, gardening, and playing basketball and tennis.
